Le Claouset is a large stone-built country house located in the Tarn department in France. The Tarn is a beautiful rural area of France, located just north-east of Toulouse in Southern France. Toulouse airport can be reached in around 1 hour. The house is located in peaceful countryside close to the town of Carmaux, the historic city of Albi and the wine region of Gaillac to the south. Also nearby, you will find the stunning villages of Cordes-sur-Ciel and Monesties (both of which are listed within the top 150 plus beaux villages de France).
The property comes with exposed beams and stone walls throughout. The house has 4 en-suite bedrooms, a spacious living room, large fitted kitchen and dining area.

Large country house for rent in France - facilities
Le Claouset is located in a small hamlet near the villages of Le Ségur and Monesties in the Tarn department (part of the Occitanie region in Southern France). This former farmhouse is set around an enclosed garden, with an adjacent private swimming pool. The house provides over 230 m² of living space and is laid out over 3 floors. There is a large wood burner in the lounge, electric radiators in the bedrooms and kitchen and an ADSL internet connection (strong enough for Zoom calls).
Ground floor
- There is a large, well-equipped kitchen cum dining hall. The kitchen has a large range oven (gas), a microwave, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer and plenty of storage space. The kitchen is equipped with a full set of plates, cutlery, glasses and cooking utensils.
- There is a large dining table which can seat up to 12 people.
First floor
- There is a large lounge with comfortable sofas and a wood burner. There is a television with International channels and DVD player.
- Bedroom 1 is a large room with king-size double bed, bedside tables, a wardrobe and an easy chair. The en suite bathroom contains a bath with overhead shower, wash basin and WC.
- Bedroom 2 is across the hallway and this has a double bed, plus a set of bunk beds.The en suite bathrool comes with a shower, wash basin and WC.
Second floor
On the top floor of the house, there are two enormous bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms. The bedrooms have lovely exposed stone walls and roof beams.
- Bedroom 3 has a double bed and two single beds. There is a large antique wardrobe and armchair. The bathroom has a bath with overhead shower, wash basin and WC.
- Bedroom 4 has a double bed, 2 single beds, a sofa and a cot. There is also a large wardrobe. The bathroom has a bath with overhead shower, wash basin and WC.
Outside
- A feature of Le Claouset is the peaceful enclosed courtyard garden. For dining outside, there is a large dining table under the large leafy gazebo which can seat 10 people. There are armchairs for relaxing in the shade of the umbrella-shaped mulberry trees. There is a fire pit so you can linger outside on warmer evenings.
- The swimming pool is normally open from late May to September. Surrounding the pool there is a private garden and the pool house.
- You can also use the games room overlooking the courtyard. It has a table tennis table, trampoline and table football.

Le Clouset is available for monthly rentals between October to May. The rental price does not include the utility bills (there is a monthly provision of €300 towards the electricity, water, Wi-Fi and heating. Pets may be accepted through prior agreement. Minimum stay is 3 months.

Large country house for rent in France - Our Opinion
This beautiful stone house provides spacious accommodation in a beautiful corner of France. The Tarn is one of the prettiest areas of Southern France, with mountains, lakes, gorges and rolling hills. But you are not entirely cut off from the World, with cities such as Albi, Rodez and Toulouse easily reachable in around 1 hour.

Les Figuiers is located close to the village of Le Ségur in the northern part of the Tarn department. There is a boulangerie in the centre of the village. Nearby there is the medium-sized town of Camaux, which has a good range of supermarkets shops and services.
The stunning hilltop village of Cordes-sur-Ciel is close-by and is listed as one of the 150 most beautiful villages in France. Monestiés is also one of "les plus beaux villages de France" and is only 3 kms away from the property. In the village there are shops and restaurants, one of which is open all year. Equally, you will find plenty of other breath-taking villages nearby, including Najac and Laguépie.
Albi is a Cathedral town on the Tarn River which is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site. The town is 30 mins from the property. Dominating the skyline of Albi is the 13th-century, red-brick Sainte-Cécile Cathedral, a Gothic landmark with large interior frescoes such as the dramatic “Last Judgment.” The centuries-old Palais de la Berbie now houses the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec, honoring the Albi-born painter. The Fashion Museum, in a former convent, shows 18th–20th-century costumes.
Other transport
TGV train services can be taken from Toulouse or Montauban. Carmaux (12 kms) has a train station with services to Rodez, Gaillac and Toulouse.

The nearest international airport is located at Toulouse (1 hour 20 mins). Alternatively you can fly to Rodez airport (1 hour).
