Bois de Guerre cottage is a newly refurbished 2 bed property in southwest France, located right on the border between Dordogne and Gironde. The cottage has been finished to a very high standard and comes with 2 spacious bedrooms, a large bathroom, open plan living room with wood burning stove, a large garden and swimming pool. Next to the cottage there is parking for several cars, as well as a camper van.
Bois de Guerre was the site of a famous battle between the French and the English during the Hundred Years War. The nearby villages of Gensac and Pessac-sur-Dordogne offer a range of shops and riverside restaurants.
Bois de Guerre cottage is available for long term rentals between mid-September and mid-May from €900 per month + bills.

The house is located within a rural setting, surrounded by fields and vineyards. The house is situated on a large plot (2700m2). Inside the house provides 140m2 of living space and is laid out on one level. The house is heated by a wood burner and reversible air conditioning. Solar panels provide most of the day-time electricity.
- The open plan living room contains the kitchen, lounge and dining room.
- The lounge comes with a large sofa and a wood-burner inserted in the original stone fireplace. There is a Flat screen TV with French and International channels. There is a good internet connection (Starlink satellite).
- The kitchen comes equipped with an oven, hob, dishwasher, large American fridge-freezer, espresso machine and a variety of cooking utensils. There is a large kitchen island with seating for 4 people
- Bedroom 1 comes with exposed stone walls and travertine tiled floor. It contains a King-sized bed (180cm x 200cm) and fitted wardrobes.
- Bedroom 2 comes with a King-sized double bed and a dressing unit.
- The large bathroom comes with a shower, a hand basin, heated towel rail and a washing machine
- There is a separate WC.
Outside
- The swimming pool is heated and normally open from April to end of October. Surrounding the pool there is a large south-facing terrace with patio table and chairs.
- There is a large garden mainly laid to lawn.
- The terrace and pool area is fenced. The garden is not fenced.
- There is parking for 2 cars (and potentially for a Camper car at the rear of the cottage).

The rental price includes the internet (Starlink satellite) and local taxes. There is a monthly provision of €200 towards the electricity and water (the property comes with solar panels providing most of the electricity, but production does vary according to the season). The minimum stay is normally 3 months. Pets may be accepted through prior agreement (limited to one well-behaved dog). Please note that the garden is not enclosed.

Last visited: July 2024. Nestled in the idyllic vineyards of Bordeaux, Bois de Guerre cottage is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With its cozy charm, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside while having all the modern amenities. The Dordogne river is on your doorstep and the local villages have a range of shops and restaurants. Bergerac airport is just 40 mins away and there is a TGV train station in the nearby town Libourne.

Bois de Guerre cottage is located on the southern slope of the Dordogne valley close to the villages of Gensac and Pessac-sur-Dordogne. The cottage is 3km from the Dordogne river, on the borders of Dordogne and Gironde between Bergerac (30km) and Bordeaux (70km). This South-West region of France is known for its sunshine, its natural heritage and its gastronomy. The local vineyards and towns are world famous and include Bordeaux, Saint-Emilion, Bergerac and the fairy castle of Monbazillac.
The house is located close to Chateau Vigiers golf course, one of the best courses in South West France, which also has a Michelin star restaurant Les Fresques.
Nearby, you will also find horse riding stables, tennis courts and fishing. For younger visitors there is plenty to do and see including canoeing on the Dordogne river, a Tree-climbing adventure park and an Aqua park with four 1,000 m2 swimming pools with water slides and direct access to the river. In the nearby town of Bergerac, there is Ten pin bowling, a professional go-karting course, mini-golf, Trampoline Parc and Laser Quest. Close to Sarlat-la-Canéda, you will find Aquarium du Périgord Noir, the largest private indoor aquarium in Europe.
The Dordogne is home to some of the prettiest villages in France and many are located in the local area, including:
- Monpazier is an exceptional 13th century bastide town (fortified village) and it is widely recognised as among the most beautiful villages in France. The large open market square, which still holds weekly markets today, is always popular with visitors.
- Limeuil has a popular river beach where the Vezere and Dordogne rivers join.
- The picture-postcard village of La Roque-Gageac is situated along the banks of the Dordogne river.
- Domme is a beautiful hilltop village with lovely honey-coloured stone buildings. Under the village there is an extensive network of caves. From the top of the village you have fabulous views across the river and countryside
- Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is a very pretty village best known as the site of the Chateau de Castelnaud - the most visited castle in the region
- Beynac-et-Cazenac is situated about 10km South-West of Sarlat, on the banks of the Dordogne river. The local castle here was once put under siege by Richard the Lionheart.
- Belves is one of the liveliest and most attractive medieval town in Dordogne.
Other transport
There is a TGV train station in Libourne, with fast train services to Bordeaux and Paris, as well as regional trains.
Airports
The property is only 40 minutes from Bergerac airport, which is serviced by Ryanair and British Airways. Bordeaux airport is 1 hour 20 mins.
Driving directions
Gensac is located in between Bergerac and Libourne/Saint Emilion.
